Xiaomi 17 Pro test: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip and 5x telephoto camera
Xiaomi’s next flagship series will be unveiled later this month. The company also personally announced that the Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max will feature a second display on the back. They will be powered by the next top-of-the-line chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, which is scheduled to be unveiled on September 23rd. It’s worth noting that the Pro model has now appeared in a Geekbench test with the yet-to-be-released chipset.
According to the Geekbench test, the Xiaomi 17 Pro with model number 25098PN5AC will have 16 GB of RAM under the hood in addition to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, at least in one version. The phone is said to run Android 16, with the new HyperOS 3 interface, which is scheduled to be released alongside the 17 series.
The upcoming Snapdragon chipset is listed with two Oryon cores clocked at 4.61 GHz and six cores clocked at 3.63 GHz. With this setup, the Xiaomi 17 Pro achieved 3,096 points in the single-core test and 9,382 points in the multi-core test. As always, Geekbench results should be taken with a grain of salt. In fact, the new CPU should deliver significantly more performance.
Camera specifications of the Xiaomi 17 Pro
Xiaomi has already confirmed that it is skipping the number 16 to keep up with Apple‘s naming scheme. Today, some details about the Xiaomi 17 Pro’s camera setup were also revealed in China. The phone is said to feature a 50 MP main camera with an f/1.67 aperture. The telephoto camera is said to have an f/3.0 aperture and a focal length of 115 mm, thus offering a 5x optical zoom.
The ultra-wide-angle camera is said to have a focal length of 17 mm. Naturally, the entire camera system will come from Leica. Interestingly, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max is said to have a different camera setup, so the Pro and the Pro Max will differ not only in size and battery capacity.
On the other hand, the Pro is likely to be about the same size as the standard 17, which most likely has inferior camera equipment. According to rumors, the Pro will feature a 6.3-inch display with a 120 Hz refresh rate.
