Honor Robot Phone: How much does the gimbal camera cost?
The Honor Robot Phone was finally officially unveiled last week after months of announcements and presentations. It’s definitely a unique device with its integrated gimbal camera, even if it doesn’t quite qualify as a true robot.
The gimbal camera contains many moving parts. So, if you drop the phone while it’s in robot mode, it can definitely end badly. And, more importantly, expensively: in this case, you’d have to pay a hefty 3,079 CNY (392 euros/457 US dollars) for a replacement.
Honor Robot Phone repair prices
This figure comes from Honor’s official website in China, where repair prices for the Robot Phone were recently published. Replacing the telephoto camera costs 879 CNY (112 euros/130 US dollars), while replacing the ultra-wide-angle camera costs 199 CNY (25 euros/29 US dollars). The enormous price difference between the three cameras is undoubtedly due to the gimbal unit.
Replacing the Honor Robot Phone’s display will set you back 1,379 CNY (176 euros/205 US dollars), while a new battery costs 319 CNY (41 euros/47 US dollars). The most expensive replacement part isn’t even the gimbal camera, but the motherboard. For the 12/512 GB version, it costs 4,599 CNY (585 euros/684 US dollars), and for the 16 GB/1 TB variant, a hefty 6,599 CNY (840 euros/981 US dollars).
In comparison, the Honor smartphone itself costs 9,999 CNY (1,273 Euro/1,487 US Dollar) with 12 GB RAM and 512 GB storage and 12,999 CNY (1,655 Euro/1,933 US Dollar) with 16 GB RAM and 1 TB storage.
