Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra: Leaked video shows the crease-free display
At CES, Samsung presented a foldable display without a visible crease. We all knew this was a teaser for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, and now we have proof: Someone from the production line has recorded a video of a working device showing the invisible crease.
This isn’t the highest quality video (it improves after switching to landscape mode), but the most important thing to watch out for is the reflection of the ceiling light – this type of lighting makes creases particularly noticeable. Despite the light, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra’s display appears completely flat.
It took several generations, but Samsung Display has finally done it. The current benchmark for crease-free displays is the Oppo Find N6. It will be interesting to see how the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra compares. In September, Apple’s first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Ultra, will also be released, and a significant amount of development time has gone into achieving a crease-free display. Here, too, the problem was solved thanks to Samsung Display.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra will be the successor to the Galaxy Z Fold7. The Galaxy Z Fold8 (without “Ultra”) will be a new foldable smartphone with a landscape display. Both devices have already surfaced as dummy models. Then there’s the Galaxy Z Flip8, the latest and possibly last foldable smartphone with a flip design. All three models, as well as the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, have also appeared in CAD renderings.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra will be more expensive
The new Samsung foldables will be more expensive, as usual – this year likely even more so than usual due to the global chip shortage. Furthermore, Samsung has already confirmed that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, currently the most expensive chipset on the market, will be used. However, the Z Flip 8 will probably also use the Exynos 2600 in certain regions.
