Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra: Does it break in the test?
Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra last month as the successor to the Galaxy Z Fold7, alongside the new, wider Galaxy Z Fold8. This model didn’t quite live up to expectations in a teardown, and now it’s time for the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra to get its own teardown.
It all starts with the displays. The outer display is protected with Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3, which, as expected, shows the first light scratches from a Mohs hardness level of 6 and deeper grooves from a level of 7. The inner, foldable display, or rather the permanently integrated protective film, scratches even from a hardness level of 2 and shows deeper grooves from a level of 3, which is unfortunately typical for foldable displays.
Open flame causes permanent damage – to the foldable main display after 9 seconds and to the cover display after 10 seconds. While the dust test results in wear and tear on the hinge, the folding screen remains intact. Perhaps most remarkable is that the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra survives the first bend test unscathed – a remarkable achievement.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra: New foldable display costs 689 euros
Even after the second bending, the display remains physically intact. However, it only flickers briefly when opening and closing; it no longer displays a continuous image. The repair costs for replacing the display are €689/US$639.
Anyone who watches the video to the end can follow the disassembly of the device piece by piece after the durability tests described above. The four identical hinge components are visible, resembling those of the wider Z Fold8, but not exactly the same.
