Honor Magic V5 in Europe from August 12, thinner than Galaxy Z Fold7?
The Honor Magic V5, introduced at the beginning of the month, was initially only available in China. However, the Magic V5 was recently launched in Malaysia and will debut in Romania, the first European country, on August 12.
It is unclear in how many storage configurations and color options the Honor Magic V5 will be available to Romanian customers. Therefore, we will have to wait until August 12th to find out this and the Romanian prices of the foldable device. We already know that the Magic V5 will also be available in the UK and Germany. Honor has set up pre-registration pages for these markets on its local websites. However, the market launch dates in these countries have not yet been determined.
The Honor Magic V5 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, has a 5,820 mAh battery (6,100 mAh in the Chinese version), runs Android 15 and Magic OS 9, and offers up to 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of internal storage.
The Magic V5’s triple rear camera consists of a 50 MP main camera, a 50 MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 64 MP periscope telephoto lens. The two selfie cameras have 20 MP sensors. The smartphone’s front display measures 6.43 inches, and the foldable main display measures 7.95 inches.
Honor Magic V5 Photo Evidence: Draw against Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7
The well-known tipster Ice Universe has also published a video showing that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 is thinner than the Honor Magic V5. Officially, the Galaxy is 8.9 mm thick, the Magic is 8.8 mm – so it should actually be the other way around.
Honor published the two pictures above to clarify the matter. You confirm by measuring slide that the Magic V5 measures 8.80 mm in the closed state and 4.10 mm in the open state – just as stated in the official specifications.
ICE Universe has carried out his own measuring slide test. This shows 8.95 mm for the Honor Magic V5 and 8.79 mm for the Galaxy Z Fold7. The tipper indicates that the ivory white Magic V5 was measured, which is thinner than the other three color variants, which are 9.0 mm or 4.2 mm thick.
Theoretically, the Honor Magic V5 would be open at the thinest and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7. And this is where the catch comes: The thickness specified by Honor does not include the “inner and outer display protection films”, which are removable. The company also points to manufacturing tolerances and measurements that can also influence the result.
Honor has determined the dimensions of the Magic V5 using standardized laboratory test methods. On the global website it says:
“The data come from the Honor laboratory. 8.8 mm refer to the thickness of the ivory-white model in the composite condition. The overall thickness does not include the inner and external display protection film as well as the increased part of the camera. 217 g relate to the weight of the ivory-white model without the inner protective film. and measurement methods vary.
