Honor Magic V5 is here – thinner, bigger battery and better cameras

The Honor Magic V5 is officially the thinnest foldable smartphone to date. Honor skipped the V4, but still didn’t skimp on upgrades. Visually, the Magic V5 is very similar to its predecessor, which isn’t a bad thing. A closer look, however, reveals that the frame is now flatter, supposedly for easier handling.

Although the Magic V3 was already an impressive device, the Honor Magic V5 offers improvements across the board. It’s thinner, lighter, and better protected against the elements. When folded, the Magic V5 is only 8.8 mm thick. When unfolded, it is only 4.1 mm or 4.2 mm thin, depending on the selected color, and weighs just 217 g or 222 g (Ivory White is the slimmer and lighter color, while Black, Dawn Gold, and Auburn are the heavier).

While the Magic V3 had an IPX8 rating, the Magic V5 is IP58 and IP59 certified, improving water protection and dust resistance. The biggest upgrade is, quite literally, a 12% increase in battery capacity. The old 5,150 mAh battery is now a 6,100 mAh silicon-carbon battery in China and a 5,820 mAh battery abroad. The Honor Magic V5 offers the same 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.
The displays of the Honor phones, however, are almost identical. The display is a 6.43-inch LTPO OLED display with 2376 x 1060 pixels, 120 Hz, and a peak brightness of 5,000 nits. Inside, there’s a 7.95-inch LTPO OLED display with 2352 x 2172 pixels, 120 Hz, and the same peak brightness. The cover display is protected by Honor’s scratch-resistant NanoCrystal Shield, while the folding display is protected by Honor’s super-armored inner display.
Honor Magic V5 with a total of five cameras
There’s a 50 MP wide-angle camera with f/1.6, a new 50 MP ultra-wide-angle camera with f/2.0 (previously 40 MP), and a new 70 mm telephoto lens with f/2.5 and a 64 MP sensor with a 1/2.0-inch sensor (previously 1/2.51 inch). For selfies, two 20 MP cameras with an f/2.2 aperture are available on each display.
The Honor Magic V5 is equipped with the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and comes in three configurations – 12/256 GB, 16/512 GB, and 16 GB/1 TB – and four colors – Ivory White, Black, Dawn Gold, and Auburn.
