Lightweight Honor Magic V3 with SD 8 Gen 3 and 66 W charging is here
Last year, Honor made a splash with its Magic V2, which was then the thinnest foldable device on the market, measuring 9.9mm when folded and 4.7mm when unfolded. Today, Honor announced its successor – the Magic V3, which offers improvements across the board in a slimmer and lighter body.
The Honor Magic V3 measures just 9.2mm when folded (not including the camera bump) and comes in at 4.35mm when you unfold its 7.92-inch main screen. Honor has slimmed down its foldable flagship by using an improved hinge mechanism that is just 2.84mm thick and can be folded 500,000 times. The frame is made of 7-series aluminum alloy.
Even more impressive, the Honor Magic V3 weighs just 226 grams. That’s 13 grams less than the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 and the same as the Magic6 Pro. New this year is protection against water ingress according to the IPX8 standard – a first for foldable Honor smartphones.
The Honor Magic V3 has a 6.43-inch LTPO cover display with FHD+ resolution and a refresh rate of 1-120 Hz. It has an aspect ratio of 20:9, is also designed for a peak brightness of 2,500 nits and supports pen input, just like the Magic V2.
Two LTPO displays
The LTPO OLED main display measures 7.92 inches and has an FHD+ resolution. The adaptive refresh rate is 1-120 Hz and the peak brightness is up to 1,800 nits. Honor also installs a side, ultra-slim capacitive fingerprint sensor, which should enable faster capture. It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset with up to 16 GB LPDDR5X RAM and 1 TB UFS 4.0 storage. Despite its slim and lightweight profile, Honor has managed to fit a larger vapor chamber cooling system (VC) than the Magic V2.
On the back there is a camera trio with a 50 megapixel main camera (f/1.6 aperture) with OIS, a 50 megapixel periscope with 3.5x optical zoom (f/3.0) and a 40 megapixel ultra-wide angle lens (f/2.2). There are also two 20 megapixel selfie cameras. In addition, Honor plans to add support for the Harcourt portrait mode in August.
The software side is covered by MagicOS 8.0.1 based on Android 14. There are, of course, a variety of AI features on board, including Circle-to-Search and Honor Parallel Space. The latter, combined with dual-SIM support, allows you to split the main display. Essentially, you get two separate smartphones with their own apps and profiles. A 5,150 mAh silicon-carbon battery with 66 watts of wired and 50 watts of wireless charging keeps the party going.
Honor Magic V3 pricing
The Honor Magic V3 is available in red, white, green and black. Prices start at CNY 8,999 (€1,137/$1,240) for the 12/256 GB model and go up to CNY 10,999 (€1,389/$1,516) with 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage. Open sales in China begin on July 19. There is no indication yet of a global launch. However, Honor has confirmed that there will be a Magic V3 edition with satellite connectivity later this year.
