Huawei Mate 70 Pro+ survives drop and scratch tests
Sales of the Huawei Mate 70 series start tomorrow, but vloggers in China have already been testing the new flagship range. Yesterday, the Kirin 9020 chipset already appeared on the internet, now we’re taking a closer look at another interesting feature of the Mates. And that is high-gloss titanium basalt and ultra-tough nylon, the materials used to reinforce the phones.
The materials make the Mates more robust, as you can see in the test above, in which a Huawei Mate 70 Pro+ falls from around 2 meters onto a glass plate. The material is also scratch-resistant – if you watch the video, you can see the Mate and a titanium-clad iPhone being scuffed with sandpaper. Faint marks are visible on the iPhone, but the Mate 70 Pro+ retains its glossy finish.
The front of the Huawei Mate 70 Pro+ is protected by 2nd generation Kunlun Glass, which is twice as drop-resistant as the original Kunlun Glass. The back is made of nylon to absorb shocks and further increase drop resistance.
Huawei Mate 70 series: Sales start tomorrow
The Huawei smartphones can already be pre-ordered. Sales start tomorrow, as Huawei has now announced. The Huawei Mate 70 has 12 GB of RAM and three storage options – 256 GB for 5,499 CNY (€720/$), 512 GB for 5,999 CNY (€733/$757) and 1 TB for 6,999 CNY (€916/$964). The Mate 70 Pro has a larger display, a better telephoto camera, Face ID and a stronger battery that also charges faster. Prices are CNY 6,499 (€850/$895) for 256GB, CNY 6,699 (€877/$922) for 512GB and CNY 7,999 (€1,047/$1,101) for 1TB.
The Mate 70 Pro+ has a 5,700mAh battery and 16GB of RAM, while the rest of the specifications are identical to those of the Pro. So you pay CNY 8,499 (€1,113/$1,170) for 512GB of storage, while the 1TB variant costs CNY 9,499 (€1,244/$1,308).
The Mate 70 RS Ultimate Design is the undisputed top model with its dual-layer OLED display with 3,500 nits brightness and basalt-hardened Kunlun glass. However, Huawei charges a high price for the panel and the striking design: 11,999 CNY (1,571 €/1,652 $) is due for the 512 GB variant or 12,999 CNY (1,702 €/1,790 $) for the 1 TB option.
Even if deliveries start tomorrow, international customers will most likely have to resort to gray imports. The chance of an official international launch is pretty slim.
