Xiaomi’s global Redmi Note 17 family, consisting of two Pro and two non-Pro models, is here. First, let’s look at the non-Pros, whose 4G and 5G variants are virtually identical phones, aside from a few obvious differences – the choice of chipset and the 5G connectivity.
The Redmi Note 17 uses the 6nm Snapdragon 6s Gen 2 with either 4, 6, or 8 GB of RAM. Its CPU clocks at up to 2.9 GHz, and its modem supports up to 4G. The Redmi Note 17 5G uses a newer, 4nm Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 with a 2.3 GHz CPU, either 6 or 8 GB of RAM, and, of course, 5G. It’s impossible to definitively say which of the two chipsets is more powerful based solely on their specifications.
Both smartphones feature large batteries and displays. Each has a nearly 7-inch 120Hz AMOLED display with 1080p resolution, protected by Gorilla Glass 7i and with an integrated fingerprint sensor.
Redmi Note 17 / 5G with 7,700 mAh silicon-carbon battery
Inside, each device uses a 7,700 mAh silicon-carbon (Si-C) battery that supports 45-watt fast charging and 22.5-watt reverse charging. The previous Redmi Note 15 models had 6.77-inch displays and batteries with either 6,000 mAh or 5,520 mAh capacities.
Thanks to their larger screens and more powerful batteries, the Redmi Note 17 and 17 5G are significantly heavier than their predecessors. The 4G model is 40 grams heavier, tipping the scales at a hefty 224 grams. The 5G model, at 225 grams, is almost 50 grams heavier.
The remaining specifications of the Redmi Note 17 and 17 5G are identical. Both smartphones feature a 50 MP main camera (f/1.8) and a 16 MP front camera. They are IP65 certified and run Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3, which promises six years of security updates. Both Redmi phones also support expandable storage via microSD card.

The Redmi Note 17 is available in sky purple, sky blue green, and black, and in five storage configurations: 4/128 GB, 4/256 GB, 6/128 GB, 6/256 GB, and 8/256 GB. Prices start at $250.
The Note 17 Pro 5G is available in the same colors, but only in three configurations: 6/128 GB, 6/256 GB, and 8/256 GB. Prices start at €300/US$300.
