Samsung Galaxy A36: Geekbench test with Android 15
Unsurprisingly, Samsung is already hard at work on the Galaxy A36, the obvious successor to the Galaxy A35, which was introduced in March. Today, a prototype of the Samsung Galaxy A36 completed its first Geekbench tests. And it became clear that Samsung is testing the device with Android 15 on board.
This is likely to be the Android 15 version that Google released for its Pixel phones yesterday. However, Samsung itself is not expected to switch to Android 15 and One UI 7 until next year with the launch of the Galaxy S25 series in January. This probably means that the Samsung Galaxy A36 will not come onto the market until after that, when it is supposed to run Android 15 from day one. The fact that it is being tested with this version strongly suggests this. In addition, as mentioned, the predecessor only came out in March, which would fit perfectly with such a schedule.
Given that Samsung has officially promised six major Android updates for the just-launched, much cheaper Galaxy A16 5G, the Galaxy A36 should launch with at least the same support window. Accordingly, if it has Android 15 on board from day one, it would see its last major update with Android 21 in 2030.
The Samsung Galaxy A36 is powered by either a Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chip or the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2, depending on the GPU. The prototype tested today had 6GB of RAM, but more options are likely to be available at launch. The Galaxy A35 has Samsung’s Exynos 1380 processor under the hood, so it looks like Samsung is switching to an external supplier for the A36.
