nubia Red Magic 9 Pro passes durability test with flying colors
A few days ago, ZTE officially introduced the nubia Red Magic 9 Pro outside of China, where the official premiere took place last month. As usual, Zack from the YouTube channel JerryRigEverything unpacked his tools shortly afterwards and immediately subjected the gaming phone to his usual durability test. What traces have scratching, fire and bending tests left behind?
Spoiler alert: Not many, as it turns out. The scratch test is almost the same for all devices these days. With the exception of foldable phones with plastic panels, of course. All non-foldable displays are covered with glass. In the case of the nubia Red Magic 9 Pro, this glass scratched from level 6 on the Mohs hardness scale. The knife left deeper grooves from level 7 onwards.
Next on the agenda was the fire test, to which pretty much all OLEDs react in quite the same way. The affected pixels turn white after a short time and usually do not recover completely after that. Typically this point is reached after about 30 seconds or less, in the case of the Red Magic 9 Pro after 20 seconds.
Finally it was the turn of the bending test, in which most smartphones performed quite well. However, there are also total failures, like the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra test or the Asus ROG Phone 6 Pro. It’s not uncommon for a phone to crack in the middle, especially if it’s a gaming smartphone. And since the nubia Red Magic 9 Pro has some additional holes for its fan, we were curious about the durability of the internal structure.
In fact, these holes did not lead to any problems. No matter which side Zack bent the nubia with all his might, the internal structure did not give way. Good job, ZTE!
