nubia Z60 Ultra disassembled on tape
The nubia Z60 Ultra from ZTE can now be pre-ordered in Europe and the USA. Shipping begins December 29th. It’s available in black and silver, along with a special edition inspired by Van Gogh’s “Starry Night”. This is exactly the version that the WekiHome team took apart in a teardown test to reveal all the secrets of nubia’s best camera smartphone.
What about the oddly shaped camera modules and why do they stick out so far (and at different heights)? To find out, you first have to remove the rear glass panel with the famous swirls. Everything is tightly packed in the top third of the nubia Z60 Ultra, from the cameras to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. Below is the large 6,000 mAh battery. As you can see, there is no wireless charging coil. But the engineers put a lot of effort into opening a way for the heat to escape.
The nubia Z60 Ultra’s camera setup is interesting for many reasons. One is that all three cameras have optical image stabilization (OIS) – even the 100 degree ultra-wide lens. This could be the reason why ZTE spreads the cameras far across the back. The magnets and coils of each OIS module could interfere with those of an adjacent module if they are too close together.
nubia even covers the backs of the camera modules with copper foil to dissipate heat, as modern sensors produce quite a lot of it. The Z60 Ultra’s vapor chamber is smaller than that of the Z50 Ultra. Nubia relies on the efficiency of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor to prevent the system from becoming excessively warm.
