Report: Samsung plans more Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide than Z Fold8 Ultra and Z Flip8
Ahead of Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event on July 22, a new supply chain report has revealed the company’s planned production volumes for its upcoming foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold8, Z Fold8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip8.
The report cites industry sources and claims that Samsung has set a higher production target for the wide new Galaxy Z Fold8 than for the Z Fold8 Ultra and the Galaxy Z Flip8.
According to the report, Samsung has commissioned its suppliers to produce approximately 2.8 million units of the Galaxy Z Fold8. For comparison, a production volume of around 2 million units is targeted for the Ultra, while the Galaxy Z Flip8 is expected to be produced at approximately 1.5 million units.
The increased production target suggests that Samsung anticipates strong demand for the Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide. The foldable widescreen smartphone, rumored to have a 4:3 aspect ratio, will compete with Apple’s upcoming iPhone Ultra, expected to launch in September.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset
It’s almost certain that Samsung’s wide Galaxy Z Fold8 will be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset. Rumors suggest the foldable smartphone will feature a 7.6-inch Flex Titanium internal display and a 5.5-inch external display. It’s also expected to offer a 4,800 mAh battery and a dual rear camera.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra features an 8-inch internal foldable display with a resolution of 2256 x 2504 pixels. The external display measures 6.5 inches. Power is supplied by a slightly larger 5,000 mAh battery, and prices for the Fold8 Ultra start at €2,199.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 is expected to be only 6.1 mm thick when unfolded. Accordingly, the weight will also drop slightly from 188 to 180 g. Samsung’s own Exynos 2600 chipset is rumored to power it.
