First foldable iPhone will be an Apple iPhone Flip in 2026
Apple’s first foldable iPhone has been circulating in the rumor mill for years. Unfortunately, nothing more is known about an Apple iPhone Flip so far. However, that could change in 2026, at least according to a new report from Asia today. It will be a foldable flip-style device reminiscent of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6, and not the Galaxy Z Fold6, the report continues.
Apple reportedly started the research and development phase for the iPhone Flip this year. This means that a release in 2026 is most likely based on the Californian company’s typical two-year development cycle for smartphones.
The foldable screen comes from Samsung Display, who has apparently already signed a contract for this with Apple. When unfolded, the first Apple iPhone Flip will have similar dimensions to the “existing iPhones“, according to the report. This probably means length and width, not thickness.
According to some earlier rumors, Apple’s first foldable device should be an iPad. But the company reportedly changed its strategy “due to challenges in the Chinese smartphone market.” And now the Apple iPhone Flip is set to be the company’s first foldable product.
As always, take all of this with a grain of salt, as reports of foldable iPhones have been circulating for years. Unfortunately, no actual, market-ready products have ever come out.
