Redmi K80 Ultra: Teardown and specs just before launch
The Redmi K80 Ultra is about to launch in China. Although the device hasn’t been officially announced yet, tech bloggers across China have already gotten their hands on it. Some have already published first impressions and even full teardowns.
The well-known teardown experts from WekiHome are also among them and have already taken apart the eagerly awaited flagship killer. The Chinese video can be seen above, where you can set the appropriate subtitles using the gear wheel.
The Redmi K80 Ultra features a fiberglass back with a matte finish, a quad-curved metal frame, and a metal camera island. On the front is a 6.83-inch LTPS OLED display with FHD+ resolution and a 144 Hz refresh rate, as well as symmetrical edges. The panel is manufactured by TCL and protected by Xiaomi Dragon Crystal Glass. The weight is 223.5 g.
After removing the backplate, the motherboard and a massive thermal pad above the battery are visible. Unfortunately, there is no wireless charging coil here. The thermal pad extends to the top of the speaker unit next to the dual cameras. It covers a total area of 6,800 mm². The main part of the motherboard features additional thermal pads and copper foil.
The main camera module also features a copper foil to control heat buildup. The teardown shows the 1/1.55-inch 50 MP main camera (OV Light Fusion 800), the 8 MP ultra-wide-angle camera (OV08F), and the 20 MP selfie camera (OV20B). Also on display are the Dimensity 9400+ chipset, Micron LPDDR5X RAM, and Samsung UFS 4.1 storage chips.
The Redmi K80 Ultra also features coaxial AAC 1115 stereo speakers and a linear X-axis vibration motor (CSA0916C). The video also shows a brief glimpse of the 7,410 mAh silicon-carbon battery with Xiaomi’s Hyper G1 battery management chip.
Redmi K80 Ultra technical specifications
A second major leak details the technical specifications of the Redmi K80 Ultra. However, this is only partially a leak from tipster Experience More – Xiaomi itself also revealed various details on the official Weibo page.
In this leak, the Redmi K80 Ultra also features a flat 6.83-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1,280 x 2,772 pixels and a refresh rate of 144 Hz. The panel offers a maximum brightness of up to 3,200 nits and is equipped with a 20 MP selfie camera (OV20B) and an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner.
There is also stereo speakers and an X-axis linear motor as well as a metal medium frame and a fiberglass back. The Redmi K80 Ultra measures 163.08 x 77.93 x 8.18 mm and, according to the second tip, weighs minimally lighter 219 grams.
In terms of dual camera setup, both Leaks agree, just like the Dimensity 9400+Chip, the LPDDR5X RAM and the UFS 4.1 memory. However, there is also talk of a dedicated D2 graphics chip.
The 7.410 mAh battery loads with a fast 100-watt charging function and there is also water and dust protection according to IP68/IP69, NFC, an IR station and USB 2.0 connectivity. The device will be available in four colors: spruce green, ice blue, moonstone white and sandstone gray. The price for the Redmi smartphone is expected to be 3,000 CNY (362 €/415 $).
