Samsung launched its first “Classic” smartwatch, the Galaxy Watch4 Classic, in 2021. However, this wasn’t included in all subsequent Galaxy Watch models, as Samsung only released the Classic version every other generation. For example, the Watch5 and Watch7 didn’t have a Classic version, while the Watch6 Classic and Watch8 Classic did. Given this pattern, we didn’t expect Samsung to release a Classic smartwatch this year. However, a recent development suggests that this might not be the case.

While analyzing the source code of a Wear OS update, the team at Android Authority discovered possible codenames for the next generation of Galaxy Watches. These include three models: Fresh 9, Wise 9, and Project V2. Fresh 9 and Wise 9 are likely the codenames for the Samsung Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch9 Classic, respectively, while Project V2 is believed to be the codename for the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2.

Samsung Galaxy Watch9 with Raise to talk

Furthermore, the publication discovered the existing setting “RttSettingsManagerPixelWatch” and the new setting “RttSettingsManager3pWearOs” in the Google code, suggesting that the Samsung Galaxy Watch9 – and possibly other Wear OS smartwatches – could receive support for the Raise-to-talk feature, which is exclusive to the Pixel Watch.

Samsung could unveil the Galaxy Watch9 series and the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 along with the Galaxy Z Flip8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 series smartphones, which are rumored to be presented on July 22nd.
