Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2: Cheaper Bluetooth version without 5G
A few months ago, we heard that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 would be equipped with a new chipset – reportedly the Snapdragon Wear Elite. One of the most significant improvements of this chip is 5G connectivity – the original Galaxy Watch Ultra, powered by the Exynos W1000, only had a 4G modem (to be fair, this was also true for the Snapdragon Wear W5 Gen 2).
Samsung has not yet released a Bluetooth version of the Ultra, as is usually the case with the Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Watch Classic models. According to a new tip from GalaxyClub, this will change with the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2.
A Dutch publication has found evidence that Samsung will release a Bluetooth version of the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 (it will also have Wi-Fi, but no cellular connectivity). This version is intended for the Netherlands and presumably the rest of the EU.
Cheaper Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 Bluetooth version
By omitting the 5G modem, Samsung can offer a more affordable version of the Galaxy smartwatch – this likely became necessary after rising RAM and storage costs forced the company to increase smartphone prices. Therefore, we expect the Bluetooth watch to be available worldwide.
While RAM and storage space are limited in smartwatches, the previous model still offered 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. The latter was even increased to 64 GB last year. Whether the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 will offer similar capacities and 5G connectivity remains to be seen. Currently, only Apple‘s latest smartwatches are equipped with 5G.
