Google Pixel 10: New ultrasonic sensor and telemacro camera

According to two new leaks, the Google Pixel 10 series will get ultrasonic fingerprint sensors and telemacro cameras, including the base model.

The Pixel 9 smartphones launched last year featured improved biometrics, as Google switched from an optical fingerprint scanner to an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner on some models. The upcoming Google Pixel 10 series will continue to feature ultrasonic fingerprint readers, but they will be better than those on the Pixel 9 series.

According to a report from Android Headlines, the Google Pixel 10 series’ ultrasonic fingerprint scanner will be “faster than before.” However, the manufacturer of the improved ultrasonic fingerprint scanner is not part of the leak. It’s also supposed to improve password-free unlocking of the Pixel 10 series, even with wet fingers.

While Google has improved the ultrasonic fingerprint readers on the Pixel 10 series, it has retained facial recognition on smartphones. While not as good as Apple’s Face ID, it’s secure enough for banking apps.

Google Pixel 10 with new telephoto camera

A second leak has also revealed that the telephoto camera on the Google Pixel 10 phones will receive a new feature: the ability to take macro shots. This applies to all models, by the way, as the base model is also expected to get a telephoto camera. Nevertheless, the Pixel phones will retain their ultra-wide-angle cameras with autofocus, which will therefore continue to have their own macro functions.

Ultra-wide-angle lenses can focus closer than telephoto lenses. So, you can choose between ultra-wide-angle and telephoto lenses for close-ups. Telephoto lenses offer greater magnification, as long as the minimum focusing distance is not exceeded. In this case, the ultra-wide-angle lens is the better option.

The Google Pixel 10 series is rumored to be unveiled on August 20th. The lineup reportedly includes the Pixel 10, the Pixel 10 Pro, the Pixel 10 Pro XL, and the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Like the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, the upcoming Pixel flip phone is expected to use a side-mounted fingerprint scanner for biometric authentication.

The chipset will be the new Tensor G5, manufactured for the first time by TSMC. Ideally, this should result in both better performance and greater efficiency compared to previous Samsung chips. In addition, there are new AI photo tools, high-frequency PWM dimming, and magnetic charging. However, not with built-in magnets like Apple’s. Instead, Google’s cases will contain magnets.
