Google Pixel 10 series with fast magnetic charging
The Google Pixel 10 series is expected to be unveiled on August 20. According to previous leaks, they will look almost identical to their 2024 predecessors. However, the company will equip them with some very interesting updates inside: The Tensor G5 chipset will be the first from TSMC rather than Samsung, which should improve performance and battery life. Gimbal-like camera stabilization also appears to be in the works, as does PWM dimming.
A new report claims Furthermore, the Google Pixel 10 devices will support Qi 2.2 wireless charging with magnets integrated into the smartphones, just like Apple. Google has even developed a trademark for its upcoming magnetic accessory called Pixelsnap (because it snaps into place).
So far, it looks like there will be three Pixelsnap accessories available at launch: a magnetic charger, a charger with a stand, and a “ring stand.” The charger is self-explanatory: the one with the stand will have a stand, and the “Ring Stand” will be a stand without an integrated charger, including an external charger.
Google Pixel 10 as a Smart Display
The Google Pixel phones could become smart displays while charging when combined with a Pixelsnap charger (or another Qi2-compatible charger), as Google is working on integrating Hub Mode into smartphones. This would bring us another similarity to Apple (keyword: standby mode).
The abbreviation “MPP” in the screenshot above stands for Magnetic Power Profile. The colors are code names, by the way – “Rock Candy” usually becomes Obsidian, which in the Google world means black. “Mist” becomes Porcelain, which in the Google world means white, although with the Google Pixel 10 generation, it could possibly be called Light Porcelain.
Interestingly, the Google Pixel 10 series devices are said to be equipped with a ConvenientPower CPS4041 controller chip for wireless charging. This chip supports up to 60 watts, which would represent a quantum leap for Pixel phones. However, Google could limit this as much as it wants. Therefore, this is not confirmation of significantly faster wireless charging on the Pixel 10.
