Huawei launched the Pura 70 Ultra with a retractable 1-inch main camera in April and is now apparently working on its successor. Accordingly, the first leaks about the new device are slowly emerging, such as the camera specifications of the Huawei Pura 80 Ultra, which have now leaked in China.

The Huawei Pura 80 Ultra is said to be equipped with a 50 MP main camera with a 1-inch sensor and a variable aperture. There is also a 50 MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a “super-large” periscope zoom camera with a 1/1.3-inch sensor. This would be significantly smaller than the main camera. However, zoom cameras very rarely have really large sensors. And a 1/1.3-inch chip would be larger than the main camera sensor on most smartphones on the market.

Since the unveiling of the Huawei Pura 80 Ultra is still quite a way off, these technical data could still refer to a prototype. And accordingly, there may still be changes before mass production starts. Rumors have it that this is planned for the second quarter of 2025, although April is probably the most likely month given the launch date of its predecessor.

Nevertheless, Huawei seems to want to position the upcoming Pura 80 Ultra as a powerful camera phone, just like all the top models in the P series before it. Given the rumored technical data, the plan should work.
