Huawei Mate 70: CEO reveals launch date, first live images
The upcoming Huawei Mate 70 series finally has a concrete launch date thanks to Richard Yu, CEO of the CBG division. The smartphones will be unveiled on November 26, but Yu didn’t reveal anything more. At least not on this topic – instead he announced the launch of a new luxury electric car called Maextro.
Yu revealed the date during an interview at the Guangzhou Auto Show 2024. The announcement comes as a surprise, as no further clues appeared on Huawei’s social media accounts. We expect at least four models – the Huawei Mate 70, the Mate 70 Pro, Mate 70 Pro+ and the Mate 70 RS Ultimate. All should run on the new HarmonyOS Next operating system. This is supposedly Huawei’s first operating system that is not based on an Android Open Source Project build.
The Huawei Mate 70 series could also introduce the new HiSilicon chipset called Kirin 9100. According to reports, this is based on a 6 Nm node from SMIC and could be on par with the four-year-old Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 or the MediaTek Dimensity 9000.
Huawei Mate 70 Pro spotted ahead of launch
With the launch looming, leaks are naturally piling up. The latest shows the front design of the Huawei Mate 70 Pro / Pro+, which will again feature three punch holes just like the Mate 60 Pro and Mate 60 Pro+ from last year.
This should be the same setup, with one of the cutouts housing the selfie camera and the remaining two being responsible for the 3D ToF system for secure face unlocks.
Although the Mate 70 Pro / Pro+ in the picture is in a protective case, it appears to have a flat frame. The predecessor still had a rounded frame. In addition, the power button on the right side seems to have gotten a bit bigger.
