Apple iPhone 17 Slim with new OLED display?
Given the declining iPhone Plus sales over the years, Apple has been planning to replace the Plus models with something more exciting for some time. At least rumors of this kind have been gaining ground since the beginning of the year. We’re talking about the Apple iPhone 17 Slim, a new Apple phone that is rumored to be even more expensive than the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
New information from DigiTimes suggests that the upcoming Apple iPhone 17 Slim will feature a new type of OLED display that could allow for an extremely thin build. A lesser-known Taiwanese brand, Novatek, recently unveiled a new TDDI OLED panel that combines the touch sensor layer and the display driver in one unit. That’s why it’s called TDDI, which stands for Touch and Display Driver Integration.
It may not sound like groundbreaking technology, but it could prove crucial in reducing the thickness of the Apple iPhone 17 Slim and shaving a few millimeters off.

DigiTimes believes that Apple will likely use Novatek as a supplier of OLED panels for its iPhone 17 Slim next year, although there is no clear confirmation of the partnership. In fact, the news agency speculates that Apple may be testing the new technology on other devices before implementing it in its iPhones. For example, Apple Watches or iPads could get TDDI OLEDs before the iPhones.
However, it should not be forgotten that these are still rumors. An Apple iPhone 17 Slim could look completely different and have a completely different name. For example, a leak from July suggested that the smartphone would only have one camera on the back. But that sounds unlikely given the rumors of a price that is even higher than the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
