Honor MagicPad 2 with AI features and Pad 9 Pro introduced
Honor presented the Magic V3 and Magic Vs3 foldables at a major event today. The Chinese company also brought two new Android tablets with them. The first is the Honor MagicPad 2 with a 12.3-inch OLED screen and a fast Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset. The second is the Honor Pad 9 Pro with the equally fast Dimensity 8100 processor.
Honor MagicPad 2
The Honor MagicPad 2 switches to an OLED display, an improvement over the LCD panel of its predecessor, the MagicPad 13. The 10-bit panel supports a refresh rate of up to 144 Hz, a resolution of 3,000 x 1,920 pixels (290 ppi) and a peak brightness of 1,600 nits. PWM dimming with 4,320 Hz is also on board, as is certification from TÜV Rheinland for flicker and blue light protection.
Although the Honor MagicPad 2 is only 5.8 mm thin, the Chinese have again housed a large 10,050 mAh battery with support for wired charging with 66 watts. The company has also retained the 13 MP main camera and the 9 MP front camera. The operating system is MagicOS 8.0 based on Android 14. There are also various AI functions on board that are supported by the Qualcomm chipset. Honor has expanded multitasking with some additional functions such as the recognition of handwritten formulas, handwriting, geometric figures and object identification.
The Honor MagicPad 2 has Bluetooth 5.3, WiFi 6 and supports the latest Magic Pen 3 pen. It has eight speakers and is even IMAX Enhanced Audio and Video certified. However, there is no version with a cellular connection.
The Honor MagicPad 2 is available in white, black and cyan. Storage options include 8/256GB, 12/256GB, 16/512GB and 16GB/1TB. Prices start at CNY 2,899 (€367/$400) and go up to CNY 4,199 (€530/$580). The tablet is available for pre-order from the Honor China online store. Sales start on July 19.
Honor Pad 9 Pro
The Honor Pad series is designed for people of all ages who are looking for a budget-friendly solution to learn and study on the go. The Honor Pad 9 Pro builds on the Pad 9 in this approach, but offers a brighter and faster screen. It’s still a 12.1-inch LCD display, but now has a 144Hz refresh rate and 2.5K resolution, or 2,560 x 1,600 pixels.
Interestingly, Honor offers the Pad 9 Pro with two different displays. One is the regular LCD and the other has a coating on the top to protect against blue light and flicker. Compared to its 12.1-inch predecessor, the Pad 9 Pro has gotten smaller, which means the bezels have gotten thinner. More importantly, Honor has increased the battery capacity by almost 20% to 10,050 mAh.
The Mediatek chipset is paired with 8 or 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The tablet also comes with Magic OS 8.0 based on Android 14, plus it supports the new Honor Magic Pen 3 stylus and an optional keyboard.
The Honor Pad 9 Pro is already available in grey or blue. Prices start at 2,199 CNY (280 €/300 $), but the version with a protective screen costs 200 CNY (25 €/27 $) extra. The company has also sold the last two pads internationally, so we can hope for a global launch.
