Apple Wallet: iPhone driver’s license now available in 7 more US states
In selected US states, residents can save their driver’s license or ID card to the Apple Wallet app on the iPhone and the Apple Watch and then use it as proof of identity or age at select airports, businesses, and apps. The feature is currently available in 13 US states and Puerto Rico. Now, at least seven more are being added.
To set up the feature, open the Apple Wallet app and tap the plus sign in the upper right corner. Then select “Driver’s License & ID” and follow the instructions.
Apple Wallet supported countries
The following 13 states offer driver’s licenses in the Wallet app:
- Arizona (since March 2022)
- Maryland (since May 2022)
- Colorado (since November 2022)
- Georgia (since May 2023)
- Ohio (since July 2024)
- Hawaii (since August 2024)
- California (since September 2024)
- Iowa (since October 2024)
- New Mexico (since December 2024)
- Montana (since August 2025)
- North Dakota (since September 2025)
- West Virginia (since October 2025)
- Illinois (since November 2025)
This feature is also available in Puerto Rico.
Future states
Apple and local vehicle registration authorities have announced that the following US states will adopt the feature, but no timeframes have been given:
- Connecticut
- Kentucky
- Mississippi
- Oklahoma
- Utah
- Arkansas
- Virginia
Participating airports
Apple Wallet IDs are accepted at TSA checkpoints at over 250 airports in the US for domestic flights. Because Apple Wallet IDs are not recognized by law enforcement and have few other uses, carrying a physical ID is still required.

Travelers should pay attention to TSA signs to confirm the availability of the feature.
Digital passport
If you live in a state that doesn’t yet offer Apple Wallet IDs, you can now create a digital ID based on your US passport and present it at participating TSA checkpoints for age and identity verification when traveling domestically. It does not replace a physical passport and cannot be used for international travel.
