Huawei HarmonyOS 7 with glass effects and improved performance is here
Today at its developer conference in China, Huawei unveiled Huawei HarmonyOS 7. It features an Apple-inspired, Liquid Glass-like user interface and, of course, plenty of AI features that will be indispensable in 2026.
Huawei HarmonyOS 7 is coming to Huawei smartphones, tablets, computers, wearables, and IoT devices. It can transform any scene into a 3D effect and display it on the screen – most noticeably on the lock screen.
System UI elements like sliders and buttons have a more modern look, and the “agentic AI” is directly integrated into the assistant. This now supports more in-app commands and can handle more user requests than a typical AI assistant.
Huawei HarmonyOS 7 with Intent as a Service
There will also be new AI-powered photo editing options, and Huawei boasts that its new HarmonyOS Intelligent Agent Framework 2.0 is equipped with “Intent as a Service”, whatever that may mean, and guarantees a task execution rate of “more than 90%”, which seems low to us, but is perhaps impressive in the field of “agentic AI”.
HarmonyOS 7 also offers 15% better performance compared to HarmonyOS 6.1. However, we don’t know how this increase was measured or what it means exactly. We expect everything to run faster and more smoothly, especially when launching apps and games.
The developer beta of HarmonyOS 7 is available today for compatible Huawei smartphones; the final update will be released in the fall. Thus, even Huawei’s announcement and release schedule seems to be heavily inspired by Apple.
