Samsung Galaxy S27 could use BOE displays
Chinese display manufacturer BOE is apparently trying to secure display contracts for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S27 series. According to a new report from Korea, BOE has learned that CSOT, a subsidiary of TCL, has signed a contract with Samsung for the Galaxy A57 and also wants to enter the Korean company’s supply chain.
Samsung Display remains the primary display supplier for the Galaxy A57, but CSOT is the second largest supplier in terms of production volume. Against this backdrop, Samsung is reportedly considering using BOE as a second supplier alongside Samsung Display for the Galaxy S27; however, a decision is still pending.
Samsung Galaxy S27: Cheap displays, expensive storage
This would undoubtedly help Samsung Electronics save costs, which could then be used for more expensive storage – the Samsung Galaxy S27 series is rumored to be getting UFS 5.0 storage, according to a leak last month. Interestingly, a Korean media report speculates that Samsung, at the corporate level, might not want to secure BOE as a supplier for a high-end Samsung Electronics device, as this could weaken Samsung Display’s negotiating position with Apple.
Ultimately, Chinese display manufacturers are cheaper than Samsung Display, and that could play a role for Samsung Electronics, especially given the development of memory prices in recent months.
Furthermore, there have already been two leaks this month regarding the camera setup of the S27 Ultra model. Firstly, the Ultra is said to have fewer cameras, and secondly, a 200 MP main camera with a variable aperture is rumored.
