Google Gemini Smart Home Speaker in Detail
During the presentation of the Google Pixel 10 series along with the Pixel Watch 4 and the Pixel Buds 2a, Google included an image of a yet-to-be-released smart home speaker. A new leak has now revealed some details. First of all: The Google Gemini Smart Home speaker is real, in development, and will be released sometime in the future.
The Google Gemini Smart Home speaker is, unsurprisingly, powered by Google’s Gemini AI. It’s offered in bright red, light green, black, and white. However, Google has had its own names for years—or white is porcelain, the light green could be called jade, and the black obsidian.
The speaker lights up at the bottom when you talk to Gemini. You get the Gemini Live experience, but only with voice functionality. You can also use the camera on your phone to view things.
Google Gemini Smart Home Speaker: Automations and Sound Detection
The Google Gemini Smart Home speaker will apparently launch with some new, natural-sounding voices for the AI assistant, and you’ll be able to search for and play media and music. You can also set up automations through the speaker, and it will be able to detect unusual noises like breaking glass or a smoke alarm going off, and send you notifications to your Pixel phone when they occur.
Google even allows you to pair the speaker, and presumably other devices, with a Google TV Streamer to distribute TV sound throughout your home. It will also support Matter, the IoT protocol. Unfortunately, it’s still unclear when the speaker will hit the market—we’ll keep our eyes peeled.
