Apple brings AirPods live translation
According to images in the iOS 26 Beta 6, a personal live translation feature could soon be available on the Apple AirPods. There’s an image of the pods with “Hello” in various languages, as well as a note that the feature is activated by double-pressing. The file itself is called “Translate,” which suggests there will be a gesture to activate a live translation option.
9to5Mac first reported on the image, and now MacRumors has also confirmed that it is hidden in the Translate app’s files in the latest beta.
Before the release of iOS 26, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said that the AirPods would get a translation feature for personal conversations, and it looks like Apple is working on introducing it soon. Live Translation for Apple’s headphones could be included either in the launch version of iOS 26 or in a later update.
Phone app, Messages, FaceTime, AirPods
iOS 26 already offers Live Translation for the Phone app, the Messages app, and FaceTime, so a personal option via the AirPods makes sense.
According to the images, the feature will be available on the AirPods 4 and the Pro 2 work. Existing live translation features are linked to Apple Intelligence, which means that translating via headphones may also require an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence.
