Sony announces Xperia 1 VII exchange program
Earlier this month, Sony stopped sales of its Xperia 1 VII due to random reboots, shutdowns, and problems booting the device. Sony subsequently launched an investigation into the issue and now appears to have reached a conclusion.
Apparently, several Sony Xperia 1 VII phones are affected by a faulty circuit board that causes the problems mentioned above. Sony is therefore offering affected users a free replacement program. The brand also confirmed that it has changed its manufacturing process to ensure that future devices are no longer affected by the issue.
“Our investigation has concluded that the manufacturing process may cause a failure of the circuit board in a small number of Xperia 1 VII smartphones, which could potentially result in power issues.
The manufacturing process was changed immediately to ensure this does not happen again. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused to our customers.”

All users are advised to check the IMEI number of their Xperia phones in a dedicated validation portal.
If your device is affected, Sony will provide further instructions on how to request a replacement device. The exchange program starts on July 21st. Sony also advises affected users to back up their data before sending their devices in for replacement.
