Previously, it was the P series, but today it’s the Pura series that showcases the brand’s latest camera technology. There’s a base model, a Pro, and a Pro+. The top model, however, is the Huawei Pura 80 Ultra, featuring the Chinese company’s most powerful camera setup to date. This year’s highlight is a large 1/1.28-inch periscope telephoto sensor with two different, interchangeable lenses.

Huawei has integrated a complex movement mechanism that switches between the two lenses. You get 3.7x and 9.4x optical zoom with sensor-shift OIS between the two units.

This means you can take pictures with an aperture of f/2.4 and an equivalent focal length of 83 mm, or with an aperture of f/3.6 and a focal length of 212 mm.

The Pura 80 Ultra also features a 50 MP main camera with a 1-inch RYYB sensor, variable aperture from f/1.6 to f/4.0, and OIS. Huawei claims that the main camera’s images offer 15 times the dynamic range of the Pura 70 Ultra.

The main sensor has a dynamic range of 16 EV – a record for a smartphone. This should lead to improved preservation of bright and dark details in images and videos.

The Pura 80 series also offers photographic style with default settings for nature, film, cinema and cartoon. Huawei has developed a new real-time fusion technology for videos that preserve details in bright areas. The Huawei Pura 80 Ultra also has a 40-MP ultra-wake angle lens (13 mm) and a 1.5 MP multi-spectral color sensor.

In addition to the cameras, the Huawei Pura 80 Ultra features a quad-curved 6.8-inch LTPO OLED screen with FHD+ resolution and an adaptive refresh rate of 1-120 Hz. It is protected by second-generation Kunlun Glass and offers a maximum local brightness of up to 3,000 nits.

There is no information about the chipset, so we have to wait for Teardown videos to learn more. However, we know that the PURA 80 Ultra is equipped with 16 GB RAM by default and can be configured with 512 GB or 1 TB memory.

The PURA 80 series runs with Harmonyos 5.1, and the ultra has a 5,700 mAh battery with 100 watt wired and 80 watts of wireless charging. The Huawei smartphone is also water and dustproof according to IP68/69.

The Huawei Pura 80 Ultra is available in black and gold. The 16/512 GB equipment costs 9,999 CNY ($ 1,391), the top versions with 16 GB and 1 TB cost 10,999 CNY ($ 1,530). Buyers in China can pre -order both versions from today. The first deliveries are expected to begin on June 26th.
