Sony Xperia 1 VII: New CAD images show old design

The Sony Xperia 1 VII has already been mentioned in several leaks, and if the reports are correct, we can expect the device to launch sometime in May. Now, XpertPick, in collaboration with OnLeaks, has published high-quality, rumor-based CAD renders that fully reveal the design.

As you can see, there are no dramatic changes to the body. In fact, the Xperia 1 VII looks almost identical to its predecessor. We see the familiar patterned glass back, the flat side bezel, the flat front, the same camera bump design, and the usual button layout on the right side. Experience has shown that there’s nothing out of the ordinary with Sony phones.

- The Sony Xperia 1 VII will be released as the successor to last year’s Xperia 1 VI, which measured 162 x 74 x 8.2 mm and featured a 6.5-inch display.
- According to the source, the Xperia 1 VII will measure approximately 161.9 x 74.5 x 8.5 mm, with the thickness increasing to 11 mm at the rear camera bump. Overall, the Xperia 1 VII is slightly wider and slightly thicker than the previous generation.
- The display size of the Xperia 1 VII remains unchanged, however; our source indicates a size of approximately 6.5 inches. It has wide bezels at the top and bottom, with the upper one housing a selfie camera.
- The right edge, like its predecessor, houses a power button with an integrated fingerprint sensor, a volume rocker, and a dedicated camera shutter button. The left edge appears simple, with no visible buttons.
- For audiophiles, the Sony Xperia 1 VII offers two front-facing speakers. Interestingly, it will be one of the few flagship smartphones in recent times to feature a 3.5 mm audio jack, located along with a microphone on the top edge.
- The bottom edge features a hybrid SIM slot with microSD support, a microphone, and a USB-C port.
- On the back, the Xperia 1 VII retains the vertical camera module with three cameras, including a periscope zoom lens. There are also some additional sensors or cutouts, possibly for laser autofocus, microphones, and an LED flash.

- The smartphone, powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, offers 12 GB/16 GB of RAM, 256 GB/512 GB of storage, and a 5,000 mAh battery with 30 W fast charging.
- The front features a 12-megapixel selfie camera. The rear camera module features an OIS-enabled 48-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 12-megapixel periscope telephoto camera with a focal length of 70-200 mm.
- The Xperia 1 VII is expected to launch worldwide in May and will start at $1,399 (€1,268).
Sony smartphones are known for their focus on cameras, such as the integrated periscope camera on the Xperia 1 VII. The detailed CAD renderings also underscore the flagship’s premium design.
