Sony Xperia 1 VII gets Exmor T cameras
The upcoming Sony Xperia 1 VII is expected to get a major camera update. According to a new tip, Sony’s Exmor T sensor will power all three main cameras on the back. That would be a significant upgrade over the Xperia 1 VI, which only used this sensor on the main camera. This is the second time we’ve heard this exact theory, following a leak from China last summer.
The Exmor T is Sony’s latest stacked CMOS sensor. The individual camera pixels are stacked in two layers. Compared to the ten-year-old Exmor RS, the new chip significantly reduces image noise, improves low-light performance, and increases dynamic range.
While the sensor technology itself is improving, the sensor sizes and resolution of the Sony Xperia 1 VII cameras could remain the same, according to the source. That would mean 52 MP (48 MP effective) for the main camera, 12 MP for the ultra-wide lens, and also 12 MP for the telephoto lens.
The last three generations of Xperia 1 flagship models were launched in the second quarter, so we expect the Sony Xperia 1 VII to be released in May as well. We look forward to the next leaks and teasers.
