Redmi Note 14 gets 4 Android updates and 6 years of patches

Xiaomi unveiled the Redmi Note 14 4G and Redmi Note 14 5G (and the 14 Pro and 14 Pro+) in China back in September and launched them in global markets in mid-January. However, a big question mark has been hanging over the support window for the international models, both in terms of major Android version updates and security patches.

Now the cat is out of the bag: The international Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 4G will receive six years of security patches as well as four major Android updates. Since it launched with Android 14, this means it will end its working life with Android 18, which will most likely be released in 2027.
The international Redmi Note 14 5G doesn’t get quite as much love from Xiaomi, for whatever reason. The Xiaomi phone only gets two major Android updates as well as four years of security updates. Since it was released with Android 14 on board, the 5G phone is already close to retirement with Android 16, which is said to be coming this June. However, it will probably take several months for Android 16 to reach lower mid-range devices.
According to the tip, this information comes directly from Redmi employees and is therefore somewhat official. The long update window for the Redmi Note 14 4G is a positive step by Xiaomi, who have probably taken a leaf out of Samsung’s book. Perhaps there will still be an explanation from Xiaomi as to what went wrong with the 5G model.
