OnePlus Open 2 not coming this year after all

The Oppo Find N5 could possibly also be sold internationally. This would make the OnePlus Open 2 redundant.

OnePlus launched its first foldable device, the OnePlus Open, in October 2023 – a device that was effectively a global variant of the Oppo Find N3, which launched in China at the same time. With the Oppo Find N5 launching in China next week, it was expected that the OnePlus Open 2, an international version of the Find N5, would also be around the corner soon. Unfortunately, that apparently won’t be the case.

The OnePlus Open 2 product manager named Vale G confirmed that OnePlus will put its foldable plans on hold and won’t launch the Open 2 this year. According to the post, OnePlus is “recalibrating itself for innovation,” whatever that means specifically. This doesn’t mean that the brand is pulling out of the foldable market, but rather taking a break from launching new foldable devices this year.

“At OnePlus, our core strength and passion lies in setting new standards and challenging the status quo across all product categories. With this in mind, we have carefully considered the timing and our next steps in foldable devices and decided not to launch a foldable device this year.

While this may be surprising, we believe this is the right approach for us at this time. As OPPO takes the lead in the foldable segment with the Find N5, we are committed to developing products that redefine multiple categories and give you experiences that are as innovative and exciting as ever, all in line with our ‘Never Settle’ mantra.”

The new post confirms that existing OnePlus Open owners will continue to receive regular software updates and security patches. This development also suggests that the Oppo Find N5 could potentially be sold internationally as well. This would make the OnePlus Open 2 redundant.
