Redmi 14C 5G with 6.88-inch display and SD 4 Gen 2 chip introduced
Xiaomi today unveiled the Redmi 14C 5G with what it claims is the most efficient 4nm chipset and the largest 120Hz display in its segment. However, it has some big shoes to fill – its predecessor was the best-selling 5G phone of H1 2024 in India. It will launch on January 10 (this Friday) at a base price of ₹10,000 (€112/$117) for the 4/64GB. 4/128GB costs ₹11,000 and 6/128GB is available for ₹12,000.
The Redmi 14C 5G is powered by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset, the first 4nm chip in the 4 series. This has two Cortex-A78 cores at 2.2GHz and six A55 cores at 1.95GHz, an Adreno 613 GPU and an X61 modem with dual 5G support and downlink speeds of up to 2.5Gbps. It comes with 4/6GB LPDDR4X RAM and 64/128GB UFS 2.2 storage. The latter is expandable with microSD cards of up to 1TB via a dedicated slot, so you can still use two SIM cards.
The IPS LCD display on the front has now become larger and faster. It is now 6.88 inches in size and has a 120Hz refresh rate. Before, it was 6.74 inches in size and had a 90Hz refresh rate. However, it still only has an HD+ resolution.
The Redmi phone’s camera system hasn’t been significantly improved, it still has a 50MP main camera and an auxiliary camera on the back. The selfie camera did get a new 8MP sensor (up from 5MP), but video recording is limited to 1080p at 30fps on both.
Redmi 14C 5G offers a lot of bang for the buck
The Redmi 14C 5G retains the 3.5mm headphone jack and its single speaker is 50% louder than the previous model’s speaker. The phone comes in three color variants: Starlight Blue, which weighs 205g, and Stardust Purple and Stargaze Black, which are heavier at 212g. The difference is due to the “glass back design” of the latter two.
Anyway, the 2024 model weighed 205g less than the new Redmi 14C 5G. The new model, however, has a slightly larger 5,160mAh battery (160mAh more). The battery is rated for 1,000 cycles and the charging power is still 18W. However, you get a 33W charger in the box that can also be used with other USB-C compatible devices. The body has an IP52 rating for basic splash resistance.
You can already find the Redmi 14C 5G on the Xiaomi India website with an optional reminder of the launch on Friday. The phone comes with HyperOS based on Android 14 as standard and will receive two major Android software updates and four years of security patches.
