New leak: Apple iPhone 17 Pro to keep the titanium body
Last week, a new report came out with completely different news about the Apple iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max. Both models were said to return to an aluminum frame with the new generation in 2025. The new material would replace the current titanium in the iPhone 16 series and iPhone 15 series, after Apple had previously relied on stainless steel for several years.
Today, the first tipster on Weibo has already contradicted this rumor. He claims that a return to stainless steel might have been explainable. The disadvantages of aluminum for the Pro models, on the other hand, would damage Apple’s reputation too much. After all, Apple’s PR department has worked hard for years to convince us that both stainless steel and titanium are much better options than aluminum.
The high quality of stainless steel and especially titanium is also difficult to deny. On the other hand, in California, shareholders’ returns are at least as much in focus as the durability of the Apple iPhone 17 Pro. So it would be little surprise if Apple simply resorted to aluminum, which is significantly cheaper than stainless steel and titanium, to earn a few dollars more per device. All that’s missing is the right marketing name – diamond aluminum, the hardest aluminum ever.
So at this point it’s still pretty unclear what will really happen. That’s not really surprising considering how far we are from the launch of the Apple iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max. For most users, the choice of material isn’t even important considering how many use protective cases anyway.
