Robust vivo Y19s with 5,500 mAh battery introduced
First it was the turn of the vivo Y300 Plus, then the vivo Y19s appeared – vivo quietly dropped the covers on two new phones today. The last Y19 actually dates back to 2019, so it’s more of a continuation of the Y17s from late last year. The new model isn’t a complete upgrade, but it does bring several important improvements. These include a more robust design, powerful stereo speakers, and a larger 5,500 mAh battery.
The vivo Y19s is based on a 6.68-inch LCD display with 90 Hz and 1,000 nits in high brightness mode. The resolution is only HD+, though. The selfie camera is now in a punch hole, but the resolution drops to a measly 5 MP.
The main camera has a lot more to offer, with a 50 MP sensor. It’s also supported by an auxiliary sensor and an RGB LED ring on the camera island. This can be used for notifications or as a mini disco light to support the music. In the vivo Y19s, this comes from stereo speakers, which can be set to a volume of up to 300% in noisy environments. Alternatively, the 3.5 mm headphone jack is available on the bottom next to the USB-C 2.0 port.
vivo Y19s with MIL-STD-810H protection
The vivo Y19s also has a drop-proof design and an IP64 rating – dustproof and with basic water resistance. In addition, the device is MIL-STD-810H compliant. The battery is similarly long-lasting and is said to retain at least 80% of its original capacity after 1,460 cycles, which equates to charging every day for 4 years.
The capacity in question is 5,500 mAh, which is a lot for a phone of this size. At least based on the official numbers, that should be enough for 8 hours of PUBG or almost 20 hours of YouTube. The battery only charges at 15W, though, so you’ll want to plan your refueling carefully. At least a charger is included in the retail package, except for the units sold in the Philippines and Thailand.
The vivo Y19s isn’t really suited for gaming, though, as it’s powered by a Unisoc T612 chipset. The 12Nm chipset features two Cortex-A75 cores and six A55 cores, all running at 1.8GHz, and a Mali-G57 GPU. The chip is paired with 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of eMMC 5.1 storage. The good news is that the card slot can accommodate two nano-SIMs and a microSD. The phone launches with FuntouchOS 14 based on Android 14. The T612 is limited to 4G, by the way.
The vivo Y19s isn’t available in any stores yet, so there’s no word on pricing. We think it’s a pretty good deal.
