Sony Xperia 1 VI: Wi-Fi 7 via software update and new red version
More than four months after its launch, the Sony Xperia 1 VI has received a new function and a new variant today. First, the new feature: The Japanese company’s top smartphone now supports Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) connectivity, thanks to a software update. Sony had already promised the update when it announced it, so it was about time.
Wi-Fi 7 ensures a faster connection thanks to support for the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz frequency bands. The standard also offers improved stability while reducing latency (100 times lower compared to Wi-Fi 6). In addition, it can achieve maximum data rates of up to 46 Gbit/s. The new update for the Sony Xperia 1 VI appears to be being rolled out in stages. This means that some regions will receive it before others.
The second Xperia news of the day is a new color option for the Sony Xperia 1 VI. The red version appeared in leaks shortly before the launch and then remained exclusive to the Japanese market for five months. That’s over now: Sony is now offering the red Xperia 1 VI in all European markets. The new color is called Scarlet and is characterized by a strikingly rich red tone with the same matte texture on the glass back and aluminum frame.
Unfortunately, the whole thing isn’t exactly cheap. The red Sony Xperia 1 VI costs €1,499/£1,399 and is only sold in the 12/512 GB storage version and only in the official Sony store. The first deliveries are planned for tomorrow, October 15, in the UK and October 17 in Germany.
