iOS 18.1 with Apple Intelligence coming on October 28th
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple intends to launch iOS 18.1 with the first highly anticipated Apple Intelligence features on October 28. In the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, Gurman says the release date is later this month than originally expected. Apple has reportedly taken extra time to ensure a smooth rollout of its AI, including things like additional cloud servers to handle the increased traffic.
The update brings the first wave of Apple Intelligence features to owners of the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and the entire iPhone 16 series. The first features include improved writing tools for rewriting, summarizing, and proofreading text, as well as a new Siri interface. Users can also expect notification summaries for various apps, including Messages and Mail, and a new “Clean Up” tool in the Photos app. The tool can remove unwanted elements from images using generative AI.
Some of iOS 18.1’s enhanced Apple Intelligence features will arrive in later updates, however. iOS 18.2, expected in December, will introduce ChatGPT support, Image Playground, and Genmoji for creating custom emojis. A full Siri overhaul, promising more precise app control and personalized responses, is planned for early 2025.
