Apple Mac mini with 5 USB-C ports: Apple personally leaks
Apple itself appears to have accidentally leaked the rumored next-generation Mac mini with five USB-C ports, according to a code change within Apple’s software discovered by MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris.
The code refers to an unreleased Apple Mac mini model with an Apple chipset and five ports. This is consistent with an earlier report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, which said the next Mac mini will launch with five USB-C ports. The tip also suggests the as-yet-unreleased M4 chipset is under the hood.
Similar to the Apple Mac Studio, Gurman says two of the ports on the front of the new Mac mini will be on the front. Technically, at least some of these ports will likely be Thunderbolt 4 ports, but using the USB-C connector design. The exact string is “Apple Silicon Mac mini (5 Port).”
Gurman expects the Mac mini to get its first major redesign since 2010 this year. He said the new model will be almost as small as an Apple TV, offer M4 and M4 Pro chip options, and forego the USB-A ports of previous models. The current Mac mini launched in January 2023. It has four Thunderbolt 4 ports and two USB-A ports, as well as an HDMI port. There’s also a Gigabit Ethernet port and a headphone jack.
Rumor has it the next Mac mini will debut at Apple’s next event in October. Also on stage are likely to be some other M4 Macs and a new iPad mini.
