Huawei is gearing up for a big event on Thursday (September 19) with the launch of the new Huawei Watch GT 5, most likely the Watch D2 and a new tablet. Well, new for the global market anyway. Because it is almost certainly the Huawei MatePad Pro 12.2 (2024), which was launched in China back in August.

The teasers so far mention the Tandem OLED PaperMatte display that made its debut with the Huawei MatePad Pro 12.2. This is a dual-layer OLED with higher brightness of up to 2,000 nits, three times longer endurance than a normal OLED panel and accordingly 33% lower power consumption.

The PaperMatte panel reduces glare and reflection by 60% and provides a paper-like writing experience along with the Huawei M-Pencil stylus. Drawing and sketching is a major selling point for this tablet thanks to Huawei’s GoPaint app. The display runs at 144Hz, by the way, so it should feel more responsive when drawing.

The tablet also has a keyboard cover that lets you keep the screen low for comfortable drawing or propping it up. The Huawei MatePad Pro 12.2 (2024). In addition to the two Huawei smartwatches, the MatePad 12X will also be launched. Judging by the back, it could be the MatePad Air (2024), but the X post doesn’t contain any details.

We’ll find out all the details about Huawei’s new tablets and smartwatches by Thursday at the latest.
