Xiaomi 15 Ultra to have 200 MP periscope telephoto camera

The Xiaomi 15 Ultra could hit the market earlier than its predecessors. In addition, rumors persist that there will be a significant upgrade compared to the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, namely a 200 MP periscope telephoto camera. A new report now confirms the first leak, as far as an unconfirmed rumor can.

The new telephoto camera of the Xiaomi 15 Ultra enables tenfold hybrid zoom in the viewfinder. It’s a combination of optical zoom and in-sensor zoom. In contrast to the 14 Ultra and its 50 MP periscope telephoto camera, the in-sensor zoom is lossless, as the 200 MP sensor can simply use a section in full resolution. Xiaomi is likely to market the whole thing as “lossless”. Ultimately, however, the actual image quality of the enlarged images is what matters – we are excited. Incidentally, vivo had already presented a smartphone with a 200 MP periscope telephoto camera in May with the X100 Ultra.
The main camera of the Xiaomi smartphone is also getting an upgrade with an improved version of the Sony LYT-900 sensor. Compared to the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, this should improve performance in low light conditions. There will also be a 4K cinematic video mode, slow motion videos with higher resolution and an improved selfie camera. The latter is said to have a resolution of 50 MP and will hopefully finally have autofocus on board.
In addition, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra will be one of the first smartphones with the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset from Qualcomm. This is already a tradition for the Chinese. The Xiaomi 14 series was one of the first to come onto the market with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
