Huawei Mate XT to outshine iPhone 16 launch
Huawei has announced an event for September 10th, where the Chinese company plans to unveil the world’s first triple-folding smartphone. The timing of the event is apparently a deliberate attempt to overshadow Apple’s upcoming iPhone 16 debut. The Huawei Mate XT is said to have a 10-inch display when fully unfolded. After the first Weibo teaser yesterday, the first live image of the foldable has now surfaced.
A recently released image is said to show us a hands-on view of one of the sides of the Huawei Mate XT. However, this should be taken with a large dose of caution, as not even the Chinese source of the image is sure of its authenticity. Even objectively speaking, it’s hard to say. Viewed from the side, you can at least see an extremely thin, fold-out display on the top. Either way, we’ll have official images in exactly one week, so we don’t have to wait much longer.
The Huawei Mate XT is initially intended to serve as a technical technology carrier and will have 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage on board. Of course, Huawei may also offer other RAM/storage combinations when it actually launches. The Huawei smartphone was reportedly offered on an online platform for used goods in China for a whopping 16,888 CNY, which currently equates to $2,371 or €2,147. But since it is the first device of its kind, you should definitely not expect it to be cheap.
Concepts for a triple-folding smartphone or tablet have not been in short supply over the years. Just last week, Tecno unveiled the Phantom Ultimate 2 concept and a Xiaomi Tri-Fold is also in the works. Even if Huawei believes it will launch, it is likely to be the Chinese company’s most expensive smartphone to date. Richard Yu, Huawei’s head of consumer and automotive technology, aptly called it an “epochal product”.
The Huawei Mate XT will be officially launched in China on September 10th. In addition to the new foldable, new smartwatches and an electric car from Huawei will also be on stage.
