Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition to be significantly thinner
Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold Slim, also known as Galaxy Z Fold6 Slim, Galaxy Z Fold6 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Fold Ultra, apparently won’t use any of those names when it officially launches. According to a new tip, it will be called Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition instead.
This information comes from legendary tipster Evan Blass, who also revealed that the device will have a 6.5-inch cover display and an 8-inch inner display. When unfolded, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition will be 4.9mm thick and 10.6mm thick when folded.
This will make it much more competitive against the Honor Magic V3 and Xiaomi Mix Fold 4. The former is 4.35mm thick when opened and 9.2mm thick when closed, while the latter is 4.6mm and 9.5mm respectively. Samsung is unlikely to be able to compete with any of these foldables. But with the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, it’s getting much closer to such figures than ever before, including the latest Galaxy Z Fold6.
And now for the bad news. According to several previous rumors, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition will only be available in Korea and China. That doesn’t make sense to us either, so we hope that part of the rumors turns out not to be true. The Special Edition is scheduled to launch in Korea in September and in China in October. Until then, it’s a case of wait and hope.
