Huawei MatePad Pro 12.2 (2024) with dual-layer OLED and MatePad Air (2024) are here
Huawei today announced two new tablets, the MatePad Pro 12.2 (2024) and the MatePad Air (2024). The Pro variant is the highest-quality tablet in Huawei’s portfolio and has a 12.2-inch dual-layer OLED display. The Air is based on a 12-inch IPS LCD panel and is available in four bright colors. Despite the name, the MatePad Pro 12.2 is thinner (5.5 mm) and lighter (508 grams) than its Air counterpart. The latter, however, only weighs 5.9 mm and 555 grams.
The display of the Huawei MatePad Pro 12.2 is also of the highest quality. Huawei has installed two OLED layers similar to the new iPad Pro models and their tandem OLED. This allows the Pro to achieve a peak brightness of up to 2,000 nits. The 12.2-inch panel offers a resolution of 1,840 x 2,800 pixels, a fast refresh rate of 144 Hz and an aspect ratio of 3:2. According to Huawei, dual-layer OLEDs last three times longer than regular OLED displays and consume 33% less power.
The Huawei MatePad Air (2024) has a 12-inch IPS LCD display with the same resolution, refresh rate and aspect ratio as the Pro. However, it only supports a peak brightness of up to 1,000 nits. Both tablets also work with Huawei’s M-Pencil stylus.
Huawei has not revealed the chipsets that power the new tablets. But the Pro model probably uses a modified version of the Kirin 9010 from the Pura 70 series. The MatePad Air comes with 8 or 12 GB of RAM and 256 or 512 GB of storage. The Pro is available with up to 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage.
Both tablets have 13 MP main cameras and 8 MP ultra-wide angles, as well as a 16 MP front camera on the Pro and an 8 MP selfie camera on the Air. The software side is covered by HarmonyOS 4.2. They also have a 10,100 mAh battery with 66 watts of charging power on the Air and 100 watts of charging power on the Pro.
The Huawei Matepad Pro 12.2 (2024) comes in gold, white and black, starting at CNY 4,299 (€550/$600). The MatePad Air (2024) starts in green, cherry blossom pink, feather sand white and smoke gray, starting at CNY 2,999 (€383/$420). Open sales in China are scheduled for August 13.
