New leak: Apple iPhone 17 Slim with only one main camera?
There have been rumors for some time that Apple will discontinue the iPhone Plus model starting next year and replace it with a model provisionally called the iPhone 17 Slim. As the name suggests, this is said to be record-breakingly thin, at least for an iPhone. Just like Apple’s latest iPad Pro is the thinnest tablet ever.
Today, more details about the Apple iPhone 17 Slim have leaked out from Ming-Chi Kuo, a long-time industry analyst and spreader of Apple-related rumors. He claims that the iPhone 15 Plus currently only accounts for about 5 to 10% of sales and is therefore being discontinued.
The Apple iPhone 17 Slim will have a 6.6-inch display with a resolution of 1,260 x 2,740 pixels. The smartphone is based on the upcoming A19 Bionic chipset. However, only on the basic version, while the iPhone 17 Pro models will use the A19 Pro. Its Dynamic Island section will be similar to that of current iPhones. Its metal frame is still titanium alloy. But it contains a lower percentage of titanium than the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
The iPhone 17 Slim should also feature Apple’s long-delayed in-house 5G chip. However, rumor has it that we will only get a single main camera on the back. That would be a major step backwards in terms of the general development of cell phones. Kuo emphasizes, however, that with the iPhone 17 Slim, Apple will “emphasize an innovative form factor design” “rather than competing on hardware specifications.” In other words, design is the top priority with this model – function follows form.
On the one hand, Apple would certainly be taking a big risk. On the other hand, the concept would already be a success if the new Slim model only accounted for around 15% of all new iPhone sales. Because that would still make it two to three times more successful than the model it replaces.
