OnePlus Open 2: Rumors point to large battery
OnePlus is working on a new foldable device with a massive battery upgrade, as revealed by well-known tipster Digital Chat Station. The OnePlus Open 2 could come with a whopping 6,000mAh capacity, as revealed by DCS on its Weibo page. The OnePlus smartphone is expected to launch in Q1 2025 with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset.
The new cell could be a result of the Glacier battery technology that OnePlus recently announced in China in a partnership with CATL. It is a silicon-carbon battery that is more efficient, longer-lasting, and extremely energy-dense. The OnePlus Ace 3 Pro is expected to be the first phone to feature the new cell. It delivers 763Wh/L, which is 23% better than the current Li-Ion cells.
The OnePlus Open came with a 4,805mAh battery. With this capacity, the foldable lasted quite long in tests compared to other smartphones with the same form factor. With the further development of battery technology, the OnePlus Open 2 should last significantly longer. Especially since the direct competition in the form of Samsung and its Galaxy Z Fold6 with 4,400 mAh is quite underpowered. The vivo X Fold3 Pro and the Honor Magic V3 also have silicon-carbon batteries, however. But the capacity is slightly smaller at 5,700 mAh and 5,150 mAh respectively.
