Tecno Camon 30 Premier introduced with PolarAce camera system
The Tecno Camon 30 Premier 5G celebrated its premiere today with the new Tecno PolarAce imaging system. The system is based on a Sony chip called CXD5622GG. This is not a sensor, but an Image Signal Processor (ISP). Rated performance is 4.6 TFLOPS at FP16 (16-bit floating point), which is more than the phone’s MediaTek Dimensity 8200 Ultra chipset can handle. There is also 12 GB of RAM (plus up to 12 GB of virtual RAM) and up to 512 GB of storage.
This computing power is used for several tasks. This includes full AI noise reduction for HDR videos (an industry first, according to Tecno) and 4K Ultra Night Vision videos. The dedicated ISP reportedly uses significantly less power than other ISPs when processing 4K videos at 30 frames per second.
The new chip also brings Universal Tone, an AI-based solution for reproducing precise skin tones, to the Tecno Camon 30 Premier. In AIGC Portrait mode, you can edit portrait shots by adding things like formal wear, a prom dress, or even wedding dresses. The AI One Click Eraser is self-explanatory and removes unwanted objects from a scene with a single click.
The Tecno Camon Premier 5G also uses a Sony image sensor, the 50-megapixel IMX890 with 1/1.56-inch, 1.0µm pixels and OIS. There is also a 50 megapixel ultra wide and a 70 mm periscope with also 50 MP. The latter is suitable for portrait photos and macro shots, but up to 60x hybrid zoom is also possible. The quad-LED flash is located on the side of the round camera module.
On the front you get a 6.77-inch LTPO OLED display with 1,264 x 2,780 pixels and a peak brightness of 1,400 nits. The selfie camera also has a 50 megapixel sensor and an autofocus lens.
The Tecno Camon 30 Premier has a metal middle frame and the “Action Dot” – a pulsating light on the back. It lights up while you’re recording videos, but also serves as a charging indicator and an indication that the voice assistant is active. According to the press release, it is also an “infrared sensor indicator”, the function of which remains Tecno’s secret for the time being.
The Camon 30 Premier runs on a 5,000 mAh battery with 70 watt fast charging via the USB-C port. There’s also Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, an IR transmitter, an FM radio and stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, but no 3.5mm headphone jack. Android 14 runs ex works. It will start in the second quarter of this year.
