Apple Vision Pro available now
The Apple Vision Pro headset is finally officially available after the end of the pre-order campaign. There are three storage variants: 256GB, 512GB and 1TB. The starting price is $3,499 (€3,238), while the 512GB and 1TB variants sell for $3,699 (€3,423) and $3,899 (€3,608), respectively. However, this does not yet include the optical inserts for glasses wearers, but more on that later.
You can also reserve a demo session in one of the Apple Stores by following this link. Given the extremely high price, there is hardly any way around this. However, actually ordering the Vision Pro headset is not as easy as clicking the “Buy” button. It’s more of an experience. The first step is to measure the head with your iPhone. With the Face ID ToF scanner pointed at your head, you can rotate your phone around your head to determine the size of the light seal and headbands.
The second step is to decide whether you wear reading glasses or prescription glasses during the day. The optical inserts are supplied by Zeiss and are available in two versions – for reading glasses and for prescription glasses. The former cost $99 on top of the standard price, while the prescription lenses cost $149 more.
According to Apple, more than 600 apps are already available for the Vision Pro, including many arcade games. Third-party games that support VR headsets will also be playable as long as they can run on the Mac using the Virtual Display feature.
