Apple iPad Air 12.9: first renderings show the design
According to rumors, Apple has been working on a larger iPad Air with a 12.9-inch display since October last year. This would make it the largest iPad Air ever. So far only the Apple iPad Pro has a 12.9-inch model. Now this rumor is getting further support: 91mobiles has exclusively gotten its hands on renderings of the Apple iPad Air 12.9.
These are CAD renderings of the Apple iPad Air 12.9, which are said to come from industry sources. The images show the possible design of the upcoming iPad with a slim housing and narrow display bezels. This makes it look pretty similar to the current iPad Air.
Like the previous model, there will be a Touch ID button on the top. The speaker grilles at the top and bottom also look pretty identical. There is also a side switch and a USB-C port on the bottom. There is, however, a slight design change to the main camera of the Apple tablet. The lens and the LED flash are located in a slightly raised camera island instead of being flush with the frame.
Based on these renders, it looks like Apple won’t be making any major design changes with the iPad Air 12.9. However, this is not unlikely, as Apple has already significantly revised the iPad Air in terms of design with an all-screen display, Touch ID button and flat edges.
The first report about a larger iPad Air came from DigiTimes and said that, unlike the iPad Pro 12.9, there will be an LCD display instead of a mini-LED display on board. The start date is March 2024. The new iPad Air would be part of the 6th generation of the series, which will have the M2 chipset under the hood.
